Treatment of fine lines and wrinkles - Botulinum Toxin

All treatments include a 2-week follow up appointment, where a complimentary top-up will be administered if necessary.

Botulinum toxins such as Botox®, Bocouture®, and Azzalure® are all well-established and FDA-approved licensed medications that have been used within the cosmetic industry globally to treat wrinkles and fine lines, most commonly in the forehead, frown, and crows feet areas.

How does Botox/ Botulinum Toxin work?

Target specific facial muscles to:

a) Relax and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles

b) Advanced procedures such as reducing a 'gummy smile', Creating a brow-lift or even slimming the jaw.

c) Treating conditions such as excessive sweating and even headaches (where medically indicated).

Anti-ageing treatments work by relaxing the contracted facial muscles that cause fine lines and deep wrinkles as we age.

These medications block the release of a chemical called acetylcholine in order to inhibit the contraction of muscles.

What areas can I treat?

  • Forehead, Frown lines ('11's'), Crow's feet (smile lines)

  • Gummy Smile, 2-point brow lift, Masseter (Jawline slimming/ Bruxism), 'Nefertiti' Neck lift for neck banding, Dimple chin.

  • Excessive sweating in hands or underarms

  • Other indications: Perioral 'smokers' lines, downturned mouth

Pre-treatment advice:

Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and vitamin E supplementation up to 1 week before, unless medically prescribed/indicated for other reasons. These can slightly increase the risk of bleeding/bruising.

What happens during and after the treatment?

  • Dr Shaan will guide you through the informed consent process and discuss your medical eligibility for the treatment before taking 'before' photos.

  • The area to be treated will be marked and sterilised using alcohol sterets

  • After the treatment, the area will be cleaned again and you will be given a post-care instruction sheet.

  • A review will take place at 2-weeks (if required) to assess if a top-up is needed.

I'm nervous!

It may be useful to know that we are happy to answer any questions or fears you may have, no matter how silly they sound!

The treatment can often take less than 5 minutes, and although there are always risks, these are very minimal. The most common side-effects (if any), are small bruises and redness around injection sites. Other risks or side-effects will be discussed at the consultation

Many people return and leave for the treatment during their lunch break. If there are any concerns in the coming weeks after the procedure we are always at hand to help.

You are free to change your mind at any point prior to the procedure!

*We can, in some circumstances even use numbing cream for the procedure, please discuss this with Dr Shaan at the appointment.

What if I want the natural look?

We carefully monitor and tailor the dosage of toxins used in order to give you a natural, highly effective outcome each time. Each face is different and everyone has different beauty ideals. We recognise this when it comes to treating you as an individual.

How long will the results last and will my wrinkles get worse if I don't continue to be treated?

Typically, the results last 3-4 months but this varies between individuals, some last considerably longer!

If you do not continue to be treated, fine-lines and wrinkles tend to go back to their original 'pre-treated' state and should not be worse than before.

What is 'Baby-botox'?

Many people are now initiating treatment at earlier stages in order to prevent fine and deep-lines from getting worse as the ageing process develops.

Smaller doses as a preventative can also often help to prevent the static lines we get as a result of sustained muscle activity in certain areas of the face.
