Relax the Muscle, Smooth the Line

Many facial lines form because the muscles underneath contract thousands of times a day as you frown, concentrate, or squint. Over the years, the skin above these muscles begins to hold the crease even at rest. Anti-wrinkle injections use a prescription medicine that temporarily reduces the targeted muscle's activity, so it contracts less and the overlying skin is given the chance to smooth out.

Because only the specific muscles being treated are affected, the surrounding areas continue to move normally. Treatment takes only a few minutes, with no downtime, and results appear gradually over the days that follow rather than all at once. Used preventatively, it can also slow the formation of new lines before they set in.

Will anti-wrinkle injections make me look frozen?

No. A frozen look comes from over-treatment, not from the treatment itself. Dr Shaan uses a conservative, tailored approach designed to soften lines while preserving natural expression. The aim is for you to look refreshed and rested, not different.

Does it hurt?

Discomfort is minimal. The injections use a very fine needle and most clients describe only a brief pinch at each point. There is no need for anaesthetic and no downtime, so you can return to your day straight away.

When will I see results and how long do they last?

Most people start to notice softening from around three to five days, with the full effect visible by two weeks. Results typically last three to four months, after which a maintenance treatment keeps them consistent. With regular treatment, lines often become softer over time.

Which areas can be treated?

The most common areas are the frown lines between the brows, the horizontal lines across the forehead, and the crow's feet around the eyes. Other areas can be discussed at consultation, depending on your concerns and what is clinically appropriate for you.

Is there anything I should avoid afterwards?

For the first few hours, avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area, strenuous exercise, and lying flat. Dr Shaan will give you full aftercare guidance, but most people carry on with their normal day with no visible signs of treatment.

How is this different from dermal filler?

They do different jobs. Anti-wrinkle injections relax the muscles that create movement lines, such as frown and forehead lines. Dermal filler restores lost volume and structure, for example in the cheeks or lips. Many clients benefit from a combination, and Dr Shaan will advise what suits your face at consultation.
