The cheeks are central to a balanced, youthful face, and cheek filler can be used in two quite different ways. As a contouring treatment, it adds definition and lift to the cheekbones for a more sculpted, structured look. As a volumising treatment, it restores the fullness that flattens or hollows with age, refreshing a tired or gaunt mid-face.

We use Teosyal, a premium dermal filler, and tailor both the goal and the technique to you, using a needle for precise contouring or a cannula for smooth, even volume, whichever is right for the work. Restoring support to the mid-face can also lift the area gently and soften the folds that run from the nose to the mouth. At Āatma Aesthetics London, every treatment is administered by a GMC-registered doctor inside our CQC-registered clinic at The O2, Greenwich.
The Approach

Contour or Volume, Tailored to You

The first step is deciding what your face actually needs. Dr Shaan assesses whether you would benefit from contouring to define the cheekbones, volumisation to restore lost fullness, or a measured combination, because the two create very different looks.

The technique is tailored too. A needle allows precise placement for sharp contour, while a cannula is often used to lay down smooth, even volume with fewer entry points and less bruising. The approach is always conservative and natural, and because the filler is hyaluronic acid, it is reversible if ever needed.

How cheek filler works

Lift, Contour, or Restore

With age, the cheeks tend to flatten as volume is lost and the support beneath them descends. This can make the mid-face look tired and the lower face heavier. Placing a structural hyaluronic acid filler over the cheekbone restores that support, either sculpting sharper, more defined cheekbones or replacing lost fullness, depending on what your face needs.

Because the cheeks support so much of the face, restoring them can also lift the mid-face gently and soften the folds that run from the nose to the mouth. The technique is chosen to match the goal, a cannula for smooth, even volume, a needle for precise contour, and Teosyal provides the structure for both. Results are immediate, natural, and reversible.

Treatment is carried out at our doctor-led clinic inside The O2 in London.

Is Cheek Filler Right for You?

Cheek filler is ideal for:

-Flat or hollow cheeks that have lost volume

-A wish for higher, more defined cheekbones

-A tired or gaunt mid-face that needs refreshing

-Heaviness lower down that a gentle mid-face lift could improve

-Wanting either subtle contour or restored volume

Cheek filler works by adding volume or definition, so significant skin laxity or sagging may be better suited to a skin-tightening or other approach, and a heavier face does not always benefit from added volume. Dr Shaan will assess your mid-face and advise whether contouring, volumisation, or a different treatment is right for you.

Meet Dr Shaan Patel

Dr Shaan founded Āatma after years of medical training at the University of Southampton and clinical experience across hospitals in the UK and Australia. That foundation shapes how he practises aesthetic medicine: methodical, anatomically led, and conservative.

His approach is built on a simple rule - treat what's in front of you, not what's in fashion. That means honest consultations, treatment plans that prioritise long-term face shape over short-term fixes, and a willingness to say "no, not yet" or "no, not this" when it's the right answer.

"My goal is to keep you looking like you - naturally refreshed, never overdone."

FAQ

Got questions?
We’ve got answers

What is the difference between cheek contouring and volumisation?

Contouring adds definition and lift to the cheekbones for a more sculpted look, while volumisation restores the fullness that is lost with age, refreshing flat or hollow cheeks. Some people want one, some the other, and some a blend of both. Dr Shaan will help you decide which suits your face.

Do you use a needle or a cannula?

Both, depending on what the treatment needs. A cannula is a blunt-tipped instrument often used to place smooth, even volume through fewer entry points, which can mean less bruising, while a needle allows precise placement for sharper contour. Dr Shaan chooses whichever is safest and most effective for your treatment.

Does it hurt, and is there downtime?

The area is numbed, so discomfort is usually mild. Some swelling or a small bruise can occur for a few days, though using a cannula can reduce this. Most people return to normal activities straight away.

Will it make my face look puffy or overdone?

Not when done properly. The overfilled look comes from too much filler placed poorly, which a conservative, medical approach avoids. Dr Shaan places measured amounts to enhance your features in proportion, so the result looks like a refreshed version of you.

How is it different from jawline or chin filler?

Cheek filler works on the mid-face to contour or restore volume and lift, while jawline and chin filler define and balance the lower face. They are often combined for overall facial balance, and Dr Shaan will advise which areas would give you the result you are looking for.
