Tear Trough Fillers

Also referred to as ‘under eye fillers’, tear trough fillers can be administered to help improve the appearance of tired looking eyes.

Tear trough fillers are an injectable treatment that is applied with a very fine needle, taking great care of this sensitive facial feature. Dermal fillers are used in this procedure, which works well with the underlying tissues of the skin. This treatment aims to add volume to eyes that have developed a hollow area from the processes involved in ageing. The results can be seen very quickly, producing a sharper and more youthful look to the upper face.

When ageing eyes have caused a person to feel their appearance is presenting a worn and disinterested look, tear trough fillers may be sought. The ageing process affects us all, although the rate at which it develops and the severity to which it appears can vary with each individual. When ageing affects the eyes, thinning skin and diminished fatty tissues can cause a hollowed look beneath the eye, known as tear trough hollows or shadows. This condition can also be accompanied by fine lines, eye bags and dark circles. Genetics will often determine the way in which the signs of ageing will form and where on the face these concerns will be most prominent. However, the lifestyle choices that each person makes (for example: smoking, consuming alcohol, regular sun exposure and eating a poor diet) are likely to affect the rate at which ageing progresses, often leading to a person looking older than they really are.

Dr. Shaan looks at each case with an individual perspective, taking a personalised approach to improving the condition. Tear trough fillers are fast becoming a popular treatment to help with early intervention, refreshing the look to the eyes before ageing becomes too deep  set. Dr. Shaan uses his expertise to recommend the best possible approach for the best possible outcome.

Frequently asked questions

Hollowing of the tear trough area can often be one of the first places to be affected by the ageing process (which can start as early as the mid-20’s). When this area becomes deeper, darker and looks less invigorated, tear trough fillers may offer a solution to creating a rejuvenated appearance. Dr. Shaan will consider your concerns and expected outcome, along with information regarding your medical history, in order to determine your suitability.

Dermal fillers are FDA approved and are a safe method of facial rejuvenation when applied by a trained and experienced injector, such as Dr. Shaan. He uses precision and care when performing all injectable treatments, carefully considering the presented condition before recommending any course of treatment.

The eye area in general is a delicate and sensitive region of the face, where the skin is naturally thinner and more fragile in structure. When an injection is applied to this [art of the face, it may cause some degree of tenderness, which will often subside within 24 hours. If you wish, you request the use of a topical numbing cream to be administered to the treatment area, prior to procedure.

Immediately following treatment of the eye area you may experience some mild swelling and redness, which will often settle within 24 hours. There may also be some pin-point bruising, which can be covered with make-up when any sensitivity has eased. Dr. Shaan will explain any other potential risks from this procedure, during the pre-treatment consultation.

As the eye area can be a sensitive area, you may feel the need to spend the rest of the day taking things easy while any sensitivity passes. However, for most people, tear trough fillers do not always incur a significant amount of downtime or disruption to your day. It is important that any aftercare advice is followed carefully, so that healing and recovery is more effective.
