Excessive sweating is referred to medically as Hyperhidrosis.
This condition can occur in localised areas or can affect the whole body.
Sweat is produced by the sebaceous glands and is a normal bodily function that is often triggered to help cool the body, or in times when we feel anxious or stressed. When the body is considered to sweat excessively it can perform this action spontaneously, or when the body is not starting to overheat.
Most likely to affect the soles of the feet, the palms of the hands and under the arms, Hyperhidrosis can cause noticeable damp patches on clothing that may or may not be accompanied by an odour. This can be extremely embarrassing to the affected person and can have profound impact on their self confidence, as well as their social and emotional self, often going to extreme lengths to conceal the condition.
Hyperhidrosis is caused by overactive sweat glands and may have no apparent cause, however, it is often found to be hereditary. Excessive sweating can also be associated with certain medical conditions, including: diabetes, menopause, low blood sugar, nervous system disorder and thyroid problems. It is common for people who are affected by this concern to also be prone to skin infections and social and emotional difficulties.
Dr. Shaan can safely and effectively reduce the occurrence of this concern by administering Botulinum Toxin to the affected area (affectionately known as BOTOX). This product is also used in anti-wrinkle injections, working to stop over contracting muscles from forming a wrinkle in the skin.
Anti-sweating injections contain the same product but in this case, it inhibits the sweat glands from becoming over active, thus stopping the production of excessive sweat. Eradicating this concern gives a person more confidence and helps to lift their self-esteem.Book a Consultation
